Am I Charged for an Unused Return Label?

When a return label is generated but not used, different carriers have different policies on whether you are charged for the label. Here’s what you need to know for USPS, UPS, and FedEx:

USPS

  • Charges: USPS does not charge for unused return labels. You are only billed if the label is scanned and the package enters the postal system.

UPS

  • Charges: UPS follows a similar policy to USPS. You are not charged for return labels that are not used. Charges apply only when a label is scanned upon shipment.

FedEx

  • Charges: FedEx also does not charge for unused return labels. Billing occurs only after a label is used and the package is shipped.

General Advice

  • Monitor Return Labels: To avoid any confusion or potential issues, monitor return labels and manage them through your shipping software or carrier account.
  • Discard Unused Labels: If a return label is printed but not used, it can be safely discarded once it is clear the return will not proceed.
